I had the pleasure of speaking at the 3rd annual DPharm Europe: Disruptive Innovations to Advance Clinical Trials event last week in London. While not all innovation is disruptive, we can and should continue to drive down the cost of drug development and provide better access to clinical trials through technology, while greatly enhancing the patient experience. That indeed was the goal of this conference, providing case studies and examples of how to dramatically improve the patient experience in the clinical trial process.
In a recent interview, Kenneth Getz at Tufts University highlighted that provider engagement is hurting clinical trial recruitment. One of the reasons often highlighted by providers when asked why they don't refer patients into clinical research as a care option more frequently? Access to patient study results.
